The dynamics and objectives of Dressage:
The object of dressage is the development of the horse into a happy athlete
through harmonious education. This results in a horse that’s calm, loose, supple
and flexible, while also confident, attentive and keen. Through dressage
training the horse achieves a perfect understanding with his rider. The idea of
harmony between horse and rider, the quality of the movements of the gaits and
the comfort of the horse, are all built into the dressage requirements. The
horse’s voluntary involvement and their willingness and desire to work for the
rider and the expressiveness that they bring to their work, because of it, are a
big part of the whole dressage program. They are to be light, free in their
bodies, happy and asking to do more. It is an absolute amazement as to what the
horse can do and such a beautiful moment of true harmony and grace.

Sylvia Loch - Classical Dressage - Sylvia has been riding and practicing the
art of Classical Dressage for some 30 years. In addition, she is also a trainer,
teacher, writer, video producer, lecturer, and the Founder of the Lusitano Breed
Society of Great Britain and the Classical Riding Club.
Sylvia and her late husband were the first to establish a large classical
dressage academy of Lusitano and Spanish horses in the UK back in l979. Long
before Classical Dressage became fashionable and acceptable again, she was
teaching and promoting the subject throughout the world including South America,
North America, South Africa and Australasia. According to her publishers, she is
the most prolific and widely read English-speaking author on the subject still
alive today.
Los Alamos Dressage Center, established in 1966 by the late Maj. Hector
Carmona as the first dressage school in the USA, has always been dedicated to
the fine art of training rider and horse in the principles of classical
dressage. Now in California at Cańada Larga Stables, in a relaxed, friendly
atmosphere amid acres of rolling countryside, this institution continues. They
are home to two Swedish Warmblood stallions. They train horses and riders as
well a sell and broker European Warmbloods from Sweden and Germany.
The Houston Dressage Society, established 1977, is dedicated to furthering
the art of dressage through education. The club is the largest in USDF Region 9
and now has well over 400 members. In addition to supporting numerous clinics
and scholarship opportunities for its members, HDS hosts several recognized
shows annually.

Rider Improvement and Dressage Education - STRIDE is an active Dressage
