Are you a little behind schedule in making reservations for the holidays? Every year we hear from people who are down to the wire with their travel plans. Whether looking to escape by yourself, or for a change of scenery in which to celebrate and relax with your family, we have a few suggestions for you.

BELIZE: Close enough to be easily accessible, but far enough south to be marvelously temperate, the Mayan Jungle Ride in Belize is an ideal destination for families. It is reasonably priced, has a variety of activities, and the pace is suitable even for novice riders.

INDIA: The Christmas Ride in exotic Rajasthan takes place from Dec 21 - Jan 3. This is a perfect place to escape the hectic Christmas scene entirely, ride spirited Marwari horses, and stay in the stunning palaces, forts and cities which give this part of India its unique character.

FRANCE: The New Year Ride in Provence is new to us, but comes with excellent references. Experience the heady atmosphere of festivity in medieval villages near the Mediterranean coast.  E-mail for details: nancie@equitours.com.

ARGENTINA: Stay at a genuine Argentine estancia, and ride with gauchos on the Patagonia Ride, Dec 22-Jan 4. The flexible itinerary includes a two-night packtrip over New Year's Eve into Lanin National Park, at the base of the Andes.

COSTA RICA: Only a short flight away, warm and welcoming. The Odyssey Ride makes the most of Costa Rica's rich diversity, and is another great choice for families. There are two holiday rides: Dec 20-29 and Dec 27-Jan 5.

KENYA: Two Masai Mara Safari dates were added in December: 2-12 and 12-22. They're not exactly during the holidays, but still worth mentioning. For strong, daring riders, the Masai Mara Safari has been a perennial favorite.

GREECE: The Crete Star Trail is a week-long vacation at a very reasonable price . You can settle into the hotel, take a dip in the pool, and ride out each day to explore this rugged island. The schedule is flexible; arrive anytime from Dec 18 - Jan 3.

AUSTRALIA: Another inspiring ride not quite in the holidays but still a possibility is the Boomerang Trail, December 10-17 and 17-24. It's warm and sunny on Australia's east central coast that time of year, and you can still make it home for Christmas.

MOROCCO: A few spaces remain on the Desert Crossing Ride over the New Year, Dec 27 - Jan 3. This fascinating adventure is a good choice for strong riders who don't mind camping and enjoy a challenge.

Our 2009 catalog is at the printer now, and will begin arriving in mailboxes in early December. The catalog is a handy size to pack to a friend's house, or to the barn, or leave on your bedside table, but it is not nearly as comprehensive as our website. If you do not receive a catalog by mid-December and would like one, request one here.
