Horseback Riding in North America
Horseback riding may have come to North America comparatively late, but there
are probably far more horses on this continent now than on any other. It is
ironic to think that horses are thought to have their origins in North America,
to have migrated to Asia where they thrived and then to have become extinct
here. We also lost the cheetah, the giant beaver and the giant bison which once
thrived here. Some think they were hunted to extinction by Native Americans.
An excellent choice for a
horseback riding
vacation in North America is the Bitterroot Ranch where there is a broad
choice of horses and a tremendous variety of trails. Expert instruction is also
available and it is a good place to begin a series of rides with Equitours.
Horseback riding in Arizona is another popular
choice for those who want to ride in dramatically beautiful country or
participate in authentic cattle drives.

This 176 page book with beautiful color pictures describes the area's
history from pre-Columbian times through the mountain men and early
ranching to modern activities, the geology, the flora and fauna and much
more. Bayard Fox, owner of the Bitterroot and founder of Equitours, has
written the text. Reading it will make your visit to this area more
meaningful.
