Horseback Riding in Africa
African Riding Safaris
Horseback riding safaris in Africa afford marvelous opportunities to interact with African game
Without a doubt Africa has some of the world's most exciting and interesting riding vacation opportunities in the world. An African horseback riding safari through the world's best wild game country is an experience to be remembered for a lifetime. Many parts of Africa are still wide open for riding and one can often spend a week in the saddle without crossing a fence line or a paved road. Interacting on horseback with wild game like giraffe, zebra, Cape buffalo and many kinds of antelope is fascinating. There are plenty of ideal places for thundering gallops and some fine saddle horses. Contact with colorful local tribesmen like the Masai in Kenya is an added treat.
Visiting game country on horseback is much more in harmony with nature than doing it by vehicle and is a great deal more interesting than just sitting all day cramped in a land rover. On horseback you really feel as though you are part of the scene. The first overseas trip organized by Equitours was in Kenya's Masai Mara in 1979 and all the Fox Family, who own Equitours, have spent a great deal of time in Africa and have taken many rides there. Mel Fox was raised on a farm on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro and speaks fluent Swahili. The first riders we took on those African safaris were former guests from our dude ranch
Our outfitters in Africa have some fine horses which intermediate and advanced riders will greatly appreciate. Most of these horseback riding safaris in Africa use moving camps, but these are extremely comfortable and many are Hemingway style with excellent service and food. Camps are moved by vehicle so that riders need to carry little with them and are not slowed down by pack animals.
