Canada is a nearby, comparatively inexpensive and very attractive horseback riding destination for Americans. Most of the US is so built up with paved roads and fences blocking access on horseback that it is difficult to find unspoiled places to do a riding tour. Canada still has vast open areas without the scars of modern development, the people are friendly, the scenery is beautiful and the exchange rate is favorable.
We have two rides in Quebec which have the added advantage of giving riders a look at the picturesque culture of French Canada. Of course the original settlers were French and they have retained many of the cultural aspects of old France though they are all bilingual now. Visitors can still get the flavor of a European country without crossing the Atlantic. The Inns of Gaspé has all the charm of an inn to inn horseback riding tour in New England at a much lower price and without the paved roads. The inns on the Gulf of St. Lawrence are picturesque and comfortable. They serve delicious cuisine and the seafood is fresh and excellent. The riding trip in St. Lawrence is less luxurious, but the countryside is lovely, the welcome most hospitable and the camaraderie is heart warming. Both these trips in Canada are easy to reach and very good value for the money. Horseback riding through the maple, oak and aspen forests of Quebec when the leaves begin to turn in autumn is a feast for the eyes. The blazing colors are almost overpowering and the crisp air at that time of year is most exhilarating. If you have the time, a visit to Quebec City while you are there is well worth while. It is the only real walled city in North America and the old fortifications and buildings are impressive. Canada is a destination worthy of your consideration.
