Horseback Riding in Greece AEGEAN STATIONARY PROGRAM |

Riding along the Mediterranean coast
|
The informal itinerary features riding each day to a different destination, relaxing on the secluded beach, a daily lesson focusing on how elements of dressage can be applied to trail riding, and a mid-week day for sightseeing.
|
| Itinerary |
| Day 1: | Arrive Athens by 2.00 pm and transfer north about 5 hours to the small town of Katigorigis at the south end of the Pelion peninsula. Settle into your rooms at the Avra Hotel, which is near the stable. Dinner on the harbor, just below the hotel. |
| Day 2: | A relaxing morning, with beach time and breakfast, followed by a morning introduction to the horses. Picnic lunch, then a lesson in the arena. Afternoon trail ride into the surrounding hills, with lovely views across the Aegean Sea. Dinner at a restaurant on Katigiorgis harbor. |
| Day 3: | Optional morning lesson in the arena. Afternoon ride along the coast and through pine forest. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. |
| Day 4: | Today there is an option for interested riders to do a two day ride. Either do the excursion to the villages on horseback (according to wishes, riding abilities and season’s weather conditions), or a scenic drive to the village of Lafkos for dinner on the village square and brilliant accommodation in an ancient, traditional mansion. The villages clustered along the coast are characterized by whitewashed houses, potted flowers, blue sea and rocky outcrops. |
| Day 5: | After breakfast on the veranda of the hotel with stunning views of the gulf of Volos, return to Katigioris through the seaside village of Platania, or drive back, stopping for a short visit of Promiri, other Pelion village built high above the sea that seems hidden in its landscape of green. Afternoon ride to a beach and back through the hills. |
| Day 6: | A morning swim with the horses is followed by lunch and an afternoon ride in the hills in the magnificent scenery of the area. |
| Day 7: | Ride to Platania, a little village to the south, or north to the village of Paltsi, depending on the direction of the wind. Lunch there at a local taverna, and ride back by a slightly different route before your farewell dinner by the sea. |
| Day 8: | After an early breakfast depart for Athens. As this is a 6 hour drive, do not book flights departing Athens earlier than 3.00 p.m. |
