Horseback Riding in Arizona/Utah CANYON EXPLORER TREK |

Scooting down red dirt
Dramatic rock canyon walls
|
Slickrock, sharp ridges, slot canyons, sand dunes, washboard run-offs and sagebrush flats. These are just some of the offerings of this ride for you who enjoy rugged trails and unpretentious camps.
Each Explorer Trek follows a new route and likely involves some trailblazing along the way. This trip gives you the chance to discover and experience this immense, untamed desert landscape.
This ride takes you in a graceful curve from Utah's border with Arizona to the north, the east and then south. All told, you cover 80-plus miles.
In addition to the stark contrasts of rock, the color palette, which changes with the time of day is equally dramatic; vermillion, eggplant and apricot. The trail goes through cactus and sagebrush in the low country, pinyon and juniper on the middling benches up to surprisingly thick stands of evergreen and hardwood trees.
You cover ground over open sandy-floored canyons, steep climbs and tree-covered canopies. The guide is good-natured and knowledgeable; the horses are fit, quiet and sure footed. With breathtaking scenery in abundance, it is a full-contact, full-engagement trip.
